Here’s a little background on your captain for the day.
CAPTAIN MAT URBANSKI
Captain Mat – I’ve been fishing the east and west end of Lake Ontario for the past 20 years. I’m certified to the standards of Transport Canada and currently hold SVOP, ROC-M, Marine First Aid & CPR and SD-VBS certificates. I’m a member of the Ontario Sportfishing Guides Association and actively aid in the conservation of our fishery through the Halton Salmon & Trout Association as a member of the annual Fry Pen-rearing Project.
I spend roughly 500 hours on the water from April – October and have multiple weekly winners in the GOSD (Great Ontario Salmon Derby) as well as multiple top 10 finishes in both the GOSD & SGAFA (St Catharines Game and Fishing Association Derby) and a variety of other tournaments. I look forward to spending a day on the water with you, sharing my passion and giving you the best opportunity to catch a derby winner yourself.
I’ve had the tournament bug since I can remember, that’s my first leader board fish in 1993 at age 9 official weight 29.26lbs (second from the left) not bad for a 4th grader!
CAPTAIN GORD URBANSKI – THE LUCKY CHARM
Captain Gord – With 40 + years of experience on Lake Ontario Gord is commonly referred to as “Mr. Salmon” & locally as “The Lucky Charm”. Gord is also a member of the Halton Salmon & Trout Association and does his part to give back through the local Salmon Fry Penning project as well. Alongside his son Mat the pair compete in a variety of Lake Ontario tournaments between the months of April – October on the North and south shore.
Most of their success over the years has been attributed to Gord’s vast knowledge of the lake and the constantly changing fishery. Gord brings old school techniques back to life by marrying the old with the new to make days productive even in less favourable conditions. I assure you if he’s on board you’ll have a blast and likely hear one or more of his catch phrases – “You gotta be good to be lucky”, “Never leave fish to find fish” “That bait ain’t catching fish out of the water” and “It ain’t over till the buzzer”. “Giddy up”
Together as a tournament team we’ve had tremendous success doing what we love and sharing that passion with all our guests along the way. Our goal is to put you in a position to hopefully experience that same success while enjoying your day on the water.
